Trading Place Port Augusta

Well, we completed our Artist's Residency in Port Augusta and all went well. It was definitely an interesting experience and a very interesting place to engage with!
Port Augusta is situated at the tip of the Spencer Gulf, the edge of the desert, the foot of the ranges and the crossroads of Australia! I can't wait to get stuck into making the body of work relating to this 'place'.

Artist Exchanges

We secured quite a few excellent pieces for the next 'Trading Place' even though there were not as many trades as we were hoping for, but given the population and the amount of practising artists in Port Augusta it wasn't too bad really. It made me realise how spoiled we are in Northern NSW, with such a high density of resident artists. I was impressed with the participation of the young school kids who made pieces for trade after they came along to our Artist's Talk on their Art Development Day. Thanks to all the Artists who participated, here's a selection of some of the traded pieces...

There was a great selection of mediums too, from painted works, to sculptures, ceramics, woodwork and jewellery, (as you can tell from the photos), and this also impressed me. And thanks too to the travelling nomads who dropped by and even took the time to trade a piece - that's what it's all about!

All-in-all Trading Place Port Augusta was a success, there were some lessons learned and some refinements planned,
but it's onwards & upwards from here...

Bring on Trading Place Lismore in 2015!
