Clare Urquhart - Gallery - flatpack habitat
abstract
flatpack habitat is a visual arts project which explores innovation in new housing design by presenting tangible alternatives and thus potentially offering housing access to a much broader section of society. Essentially the project is about presenting an alternative way of thinking about housing. Theories employed in the project include anti-oppressive, feminist and anarchist approaches to guarantee a deep commitment to social justice and instigate a ‘small-scale’ housing revolution. This project investigates micro-house solutions using practice-led studio-based exploration methods. Experimentation with the adaptation of existing materials has found new applications for these materials and has also identified and utilised alternative and sustainable construction methods.
